At Leading Edge, we have a passion for learning.

We’re passionate about a range of subjects that help make sense of how the world works – subjects like Economics and Business Studies. Sure, we’d all rather watch a movie than read a textbook. But we think this stuff is interesting (unlike Maths, which we don’t teach). And we think that by understanding more about businesses, the economy and the law, we can understand better the world we live in, and how we fit into that world.

We’re also passionate about finding better ways to learn. We’re not excited about spending hours in an overheated classroom, or being chained to a desk writing chapter summaries of a 400 page book. But we are excited about finding strategies that help students get better exam results with a minimum of fuss and effort. We try to give students (and teachers) as many short cuts as possible in our courses and our publications.

Our History

Leading Edge Education has been around since 1992, when Tim Dixon first began teaching a course on essay and exam strategy for HSC Economics students during holiday periods. After coming first in the HSC in 1987, Tim had spent five years tutoring individual students and had realised how good study strategies can make a huge difference to students’ HSC results.

Over the next few years, Leading Edge expanded. In 1994, we started running weekly workshops and launched our Economics Update newsletter for schools and students, and began writing study booklets. We changed our name from ‘HSC Economics Workshop’ in 1995 to ‘Leading Edge Economics’ (at that time, Economics was the only subject we were doing). By 1996, we were publishing textbooks, running a series of workshops during holidays, getting out to schools around New South Wales to run seminars.

In 2000, we became Leading Edge Education, to reflect our growth into Business Studies and Legal Studies publications. We launched a new range of textbooks and workbooks, and expanded our team as Tim stepped back from a day to day role in the business.

We are now the leading provider of resources and courses for Economics students in New South Wales, and our Business Studies publications are among the top selling for HSC and Preliminary course students. We publish monthly newsletters and run holiday workshops for Business Studies and Economics.

We have a strong team of experienced writers, teachers and seminar leaders and aim to find the best communicators, researchers, writers and teachers for our team – people who are dedicated to making life easier for our students, and who are committed to excellence.

Over the past few years, members of the Leading Edge team have scooped six University Medals (coming top in faculties of Economics, Arts and Law) and have gone on to study at places like Harvard, Columbia and Oxford universities.
