FOUNDER:
TIM DIXON
Tim Dixon is the founder of Leading Edge Education
and the original author of our economics textbooks. After coming first
in the NSW HSC in 1987, he started the business as something interesting
to do on weekends back in 1992 while at university. Tim has a first class
honours degree in Economics from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor
of Laws from the University of New South Wales. Tim has run courses and
written textbooks and study guides for Economics students for over two decades.
For several years he was a lawyer at international law firm Baker &
McKenzie. He now works as an economic policy adviser based in Canberra.
Tim's passions include mountain biking, running, travel, history, making
sense of life and long afternoon siestas.
Meet the team
Senior Economics Tutors:
Astron Douglas
Astron joined the Leading Edge team at the start of 2005,
and quickly became involved in teaching economics. Astron is the coordinator of the Economic Success Package program and is a regular presenter at the Leading Edge economics holiday workshops. Astron has also contributed
to several Leading Edge publications, including textbooks, workbooks and the economics update.
Currently studying at Sydney University, Astron has a bachelors degree
in Commerce (with a major in economics) and is currently completing a bachelor
of law. Astron can always be counted on to point out unlawful behaviour wherever he goes.
Emma Truswell
Emma joined the Leading Edge team in 2006, and
is a Success Package
tutor as well as a presenter
at Holiday Workshops. She finished
her HSC determined to learn more about Economics and policy, and
is currently in her third year of a Bachelor of Economics/Bachelor
of Laws degree
at Sydney University. Emma has also worked as a researcher for
the Faculty of Law at the University of Sydney. In her spare time,
Emma is attempting to see as many theatre productions as is humanly
possible.
Economics Tutors
Michael Ning
Michael is a tutor in Economics and presents regularly at Economics Holiday Workshops and the weekly Success Package classes. He is currently working towards an Economics Honours and Law degree at the University of Sydney. Michael hopes to extend his passion in the field of macroeconomic policy towards a future career at Australia’s policymaking centres.
Rosie Thomas
Rosie is currently studying Law and Economics and the University of Sydney. She is a regular presenter at the Leading Edge holiday workshops and the Success Package programme. Rosie has also been involved with several of Leading Edge's publications. Apart from the study of economic assumptions, Rosie enjoys watching, reading or listening to anything substantially related to Harry Potter.
Sophie Stone
Sophie is a presenter at the Leading Edge holiday workshops and the Economics Success Package programme. Currently studying Law and Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney, Sophie is keenly interested in the role of government in economic policy. Sophie is also a formidable debater, and travels far and wide seeking tournaments and people with which to argue.

Business Studies Tutors
Jarrod Ormiston
Jarrod Ormiston is the Business Studies Success Package Coordinator. Jarrod leads the Business Studies Holiday Workshops and the teaching team for the Business Studies weekly classes. Jarrod is currently completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies) at the University of Sydney majoring in International Business, Economics and Accounting. Jarrod will be continuing in his coordination and reseaching roles in 2008 throughout his exchange to the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
Albert Suryadi
Albert joined the team in 2007 as a business studies tutor. He is currently
pursuing a Commerce degree at UNSW majoring in Actuarial Studies and
Business Strategy & Economic Management. Albert has also taught Economics
and Actuarial Studies at UNSW. Albert enjoys listening to various jazz and
classical music and is also a piano player. He likes a mix of Mozart and
Cookies ‘n’ Cream. |
